Unlike it’s sun loving ‘cousins’, Bigleaf Aster can be found sitting pretty in the shade supporting 100s of pollinators and birds!

Growing 6” to 18” tall with large leaves and white flowers in Autumn, Bigleaf Aster is a beautiful perennial ground cover!

And a host plant for several butterflies and moths like the Pearly Crescentspot.

PLANT DEETS:

  • Keystone species!

  • Partial shade with moist to medium soils (think woodlands)

  • 6-18” tall spreading up to 2’

  • Deer & rabbit resistent

  • Blooms September to early October

Native plant companions: interplant with native Spring ephemerals like Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia virginica). In Spring the Virginia Bluebells will bloom then while dormant the Bigleaf Asters will grow over the Summer to bloom in Autumn!
