Here's a native shrub that checks off all the boxes! Known as the 'forsythia of the wild" Northern Spicebush has beautiful foliage and early Spring blooms to replace non-natie forsythia in your garden.. In early Autumn, deck in golden leaves with bright red berries for birds.

And then there's a "cute caterpillar" too! Northern Spicebush is the larval host plant for butterflies and moths including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Spicebush Swallowtail butterflies

PLANT DEETS

  • Deciduous shrub growing 6 to 15' tall with 6" leaves tapered leaves.

  • Full sun to shade~ full sun encourages brilliant yellow foliage in Autumn.

  • Dry to moist well-draining soils

  • Dried fruits are edible. Its aromatic leaves and stems are edible as a tea. D

NOTE: Our 2024 Spicebush plants are local ecotype and organically grown for us by White Oak Nursery in Canandaigua,NY. An additional $5 has been added to the original pricing to cover transport costs.
