A native shrub for shade with bright white ‘mophead’ flowers glowing up a shade garden AND helps pollinators? SIGN ME UP!
Here at the farm,. our Smooth Hydrangea gets lots of visits from small bees and birds hunting for ‘snacks’ under the foliage all through the year. A beautiful native shrub that really does glow up a shade garden!
SHRUB DEETS:
Grows & spreads up to 6’
Best in shade to part shade in moist well-drained soils. (Ours is under a 200 year old Maple tree!)
Blooms in June thru September on new wood. Cut stems back in late Winter to 2’ tall to prevent flopping the coming year.
To dry flowers~ harvest stems when blooms turn from white to green. Place in vases of warm water out of direct light & away from fruit/veggies. Let the stems drink all the water then let dry right in the vase! Beautiful for Winter decorating!
