Wild Petunia (Ruellia humilis)

from $5.00
Only 5 available

Don’t tell the others but Wild Petunia Ruellia humilis is my favorite native plant

She’s short, sweet, sun loving with a bit of moxie!

  • Sweet purple flowers bloom late Spring thru September

  • Grows in average dry well-draining soils.

  • Prefers full sun where she may grow a little taller than 12” but does enjoy afternoon part shade.

  • Plant in clusters of five or more for pollinators & grand effect along the borders of your garden…

  • Host plant for Common Buckeye Butterfly and favorite food source of long-tongue bees & other butterflies.

AND talk about MOXIE!

Wild Petunia thrives in the hottest days of Summer when other plants may wither she will bloom & grow… AND ‘spits’ seeds up to 10’!

(More pics coming soon as our plants grow & bloom! ~yes I’m going to TRY to get video of the seed “spitting”)

Ruellia humilis is somewhat shy. She like to weave & peek out from among her plant pals especially Tall Coreopsis, Purple Coneflowers, Little Bluestem and the Penstemons.

Why I’ve even created porch pots with Wild Petunias filling & spilling over the sides!

Planted in mass Wild Petunia really makes a grand plant in the garden.
